Frontline essential grocery store workers in Brainerd area ratify two year union contract that secures better wages and benefits

Union contract increases wages for all members, maintains current health and welfare benefits, secures retirement, and improves other benefits and working conditions

Brainerd LakesUnited Food & Commercial Workers Local 663 union members from area union grocers voted Thursday, December 16 to accept a two year contract that secures better wages, benefits and workplace conditions. Union members at Miner’s Super Ones in Baxter and Crosby, Quisberg’s Cub Foods in Brainerd and Baxter, and Pequot Lakes SuperValu ratified the agreement. Union employers Miner’s and Quisberg’s bargained as the employers for their five combined locations. 

Highlights of the two year agreement include: improved wage scales for all full and part-time positions, no increases to weekly cost of health and welfare benefits, and employers will increase contributions to both the legacy pension and variable annuity pension plans that are in place. Union members also received appreciation bonuses upon contract ratification. 

Union members are excited for the contract.

Tom Arms is grocery manager at Cub Foods in Baxter, “As someone who worked their way up from part-time, it is nice to see the wage scales improve for all part-timers.”

“We are thankful for the raises we all received, and are excited to receive the appreciation bonus. My coworkers and I are very satisfied with this new contract,” said Sandy Livingston, who is a cashier at Baxter Super One.
