UFCW Local 663, Supervalu, & Jerry’s Enterprises deliver truckload of food and supplies to tornado stricken JBS Swift plant workers in Marshalltown, Iowa
Food provides relief for hundreds of local families
Marshalltown, Iowa—United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 from Minneapolis, Supervalu, & Jerry’s Enterprises partnered today to provide relief of food and supplies to union members affected by the July 19 tornado in Marshalltown, Iowa.
A Supervalu tractor trailer pulled up around noon to the UFCW Local 1149 Union hall adjacent to the JBS pork processing plant to deliver over $8,000 worth of food and supplies to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1149 workers who work there.
Supervalu provided the driver, tractor trailer, and coordinated the delivery to the Marshalltown JBS plant. UFCW Local 663 and Jerry’s Enterprises together made the donation of food and supplies to fill the trailer. Both Supervalu and Jerry’s Enterprises are unionized grocers that employ UFCW Local 663 members and are based in the Twin Cities.
“Natural disasters such as this test our mettle. At UFCW, we’re a union family and we persevere. We must stick together and provide support for one another. Just as tornadoes know no boundaries, our union family knows no state boundaries when it comes to helping fellow working people. I hope this delivery of food and supplies helps our union families and communities affected by this tornado get back on their feet and thrive,” said Matt Utecht, President of UFCW Local 663.
UFCW Local 663 is a private sector union over 10,500 Minnesota workers strong in the grocery, food processing, retail, and other industries.
