David Benford has worked part-time at Cub Northside for two years. He grew up in North Minneapolis, and takes pride in serving the community he was raised in. He enjoys working alongside his coworkers and helping customers every day. David depends on this job to pay his rent.
Earlier this year, a miscommunication between managers led to David being terminated. Through no fault of his own, he found himself off the schedule and without the income from Cub that he relies on. David reached out to his coworker and steward, Nic.
Nic, who is currently in our Union’s steward program, knew that what happened to David was unfair, and a violation of his contract. He connected David with our Member Action Center (MAC).
After nearly a month off the job, our MAC representative, Paul Swanson, was able to win David’s job back, with backpay.
“I grew up here, and I care about this job and this community. Without this job, I would struggle to afford my rent. Luckily my steward and my Union had my back.”
When something goes wrong, 663 members are not alone. There are stewards, fellow members, organizers, and the MAC ready to step in and fight for justice in the workplace.
If you’re interested in becoming a steward, talk to your organizer, or reach out to the MAC by calling (800)-292-4105 or emailing us at MAC@ufcw663.org.
