UFCW Local 663 honors the life and work of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman of the Minnesota Legislature. Hortman’s life was one of service. She cut through the noise to get to the heart of issues and got the work done.
Speaker Emerita Hortman championed workers’ rights, including legislation that directly improved the lives of UFCW Local 663 members, their families and countless other Minnesotans. She was an unwavering leader who stood shoulder to shoulder with us to win:
- Driver’s Licenses for All
- Frontline Worker Pay
- The Minnesota Safe Workplaces for Meat and Poultry Processing Workers Act
- Earned Sick and Safe Time
- Paid Family Leave
- Free School Meals
Our thoughts and prayers are with Melissa and her husband Mark’s family and all who loved them.
We send solidarity and healing to Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette who were also shot in calculated acts of political violence.
Let us honor the memory of Speaker Emerita Hortman’s life and service by confronting the challenges of violence and hate with the hard work necessary to build a strong, tolerant civil society that values duty of care to each other.
There is more that binds us than divides us. We are one Union, and one Minnesota.
