Part Time Jobs in Metro Grocery Contracts Win Big Gains

By

“We’ve achieved more than ever before for part-time workers in our union contract. We negotiated to eliminate Group 3 and raise part-time wages. I’m excited for the raises.” —Stella Holt, previous Group 3, Deli Dept, Lunds & Byerlys Wayzata

With our historic grocery contract wins for our UFCW Local 663 members this winter, together we are building a future that workers deserve.

Here are some of the NEW benefits that union members with Part Time positions enjoy at Lunds & Byerlys:

  • Improved PT wages, top of scale now $17
  • 3 weeks paid vacation after 8 years of service
  • 6 paid holidays
  • Paid bereavement leave and jury duty
  • Ancillary benefits (vision, life, dental, AD&D)
  • Group 3 positions reclassified as Regular PT as Group 3 classification was eliminated

Other Part Time positions at Cub Foods/Supervalu, Kowalski’s and Jerry’s saw similar gains to their jobs in their union contracts.

The reclassification of Group 3 positions make part time positions more attractive by leveling the playing field and building upon what a part time position can be.

All of these Benefits & More for Part-time

All of these above benefits were negotiated between the union and Lunds & Byerlys, and offer huge value and incentives to these positions. Not only were those benefits won for workers, all UFCW Local 663 union members can also go to college for free, receive scholarships for additional educational opportunities, receive cell phone discounts, have access to free confidential counseling, and more!

Everyone Deserves a Better Life

We believe that all jobs have dignity and respect. We work hard to provide for our families. We work hard for a better life. That’s why we stand together in union and negotiate for better wages, paid vacation, fair schedules, and benefits. The best way to do that is through our union. The bigger we are, the more minds and muscle we have to control our destinies.

We also believe that everyone deserves a fair chance at living the best lives that we can. At a time when big corporations and greed are manifesting themselves into dangerous laws and policies that hurt workers and try to pull us apart, we join together as a union family to stand up for our values and create vibrant workplaces that are a reflection of our communities.
